Characters Appearing: Lance & Delano Time of Day: late night Location(s): Random street in the city Previous Thread Name/Info: N/A NPCs Used: Two FoH Members--let's call em Daniel and Brianna Plot Summary: Lance gets pushed a little too far and Delano has to stop him before he does something stupid. (Italics are Daniel and Brianna)
If there was one thing Lance hated more then most anything on the face of this planet--it was people hating on him just because he was a mutant. Yeah he was a mutant. He could create fire out of nowhere and make it do things you ain't never seen before--but he was still him. What could he say? And people who just intentionally harassed him just irked the living crap out of him. He already had enough to deal with please and thank you.
He had spent the better part of the afternoon and evening looking for possible places to get a job...but so far it had been a bust. No one seemed to be hiring...or they just didn't want to hire someone so young. Young? Pfffffth! He was twenty one years old! He needed a job already! But there was no sense in trying anymore after all the stores had closed. And somehow he didn't think any bar in their right mind would hire someone who has just recently turned the legal drinking age either. So for tonight he was yet again forced to be content with failure. He hated this--he really did. Why was finding a job so bloody hard?!
He felt that off feeling...like someone was watching him. He glanced back and saw the two people just several yards away from him. One female and one male he noted. And he didn't know what they wanted with him. Seemed odd they would be following him. He didn't know them--hadn't seen them before in his life. And certainly they didn't know him. He suddenly found himself not liking this one little bit. It was night time after all. Not the best time to be wandering around by yourself. And he didn't even want to think about what could happen if these two had an unfriendly agenda in mind.
Well he would just have to wait and see now.
"Well, well...look at the boy walking all alone." the man sneered as the two of them were now walking beside him.
"Need someone to walk with you." The babyish tone of the female really got under Lance's skin from the second he heard her tone. Oh so this was how it was gonna be eh?
"Whadda ya guys want?!" Lance spat out as he turned towards the female--the one who really grated on his nerves. Already he did not like these two. They just seemed to be looking for trouble. "Oh fiesty are we?" was the female's retort as she clicked her tongue at him.
"You should watch your tongue boy." the man said causing the young pyro's eyebrow to raise. Was that--a threat? He was not amused.
"Awh just leave me alone. I got nothin' ya want and ya got nothin' I want." Lance grumped...really now. He was just going home. He was tired, frustrated and cranky--now was not the time to mess with him.
Suddenly Lance grunted as the man grabbed his upper arm. The other's eyes were two narrow slits as he stared down at the younger man..."And what if we don't want to...?"
Lance just laughed softly...this was how it was going to be huh? Really. Okay then that was just fine with him. Wafts of smoke began to come up from his arms. The male saw this and jumped back letting go of Lance's arm in the process. The female gave a soft yelp as she skittered towards the man (must have been a boyfriend Lance figured) as the tell tale signs of fire began to appear around his hands. Then they were engulfed in flames...bright orange and dangerous but Lance himself was not harmed.
The same could not be said for these two--that was if they kept on harassing the Texan native. "I said...back off." Lance's tone was low and threatening as the bright orange fire surrounded both of his hands. The pupil and irises of both eyes were bright white as he used his powers in a show of strength. Hopefully they get the hint...get the idea of what he could do to them and then they would get the hell out of here. He didn't want to hurt them...he was giving them this chance to leave...now...
All they had to do was take it.

Boring. It was hard to claim boredom when life was just everywhere in your face. Yawning, Delano felt like he should taken that afternoon nap earlier. Considering he had a rough night the night before and had gotten little sleep. Nightmares are never fun to have and there was no need to get his roommate worked up. Who knows if he would be able to help either.
The sounds from around the corner at the end of the block got his attention. Out of all the sounds within the city he knew how to signal out certain noises. Only a short jog to round the corner, he took notice of a man and a woman trying to mess with a man about his age. The whole scene spelled trouble to him. Even more so when he began to smell smoke and noticed it was coming off the man the other two were talking to.
“Can't we all just get along?†he asked, out loud. Stupid question since he thought he heard the woman say some nasty remark. Then the guy dragged her away from the scene. It seemed a little too easy for them to give up, however, he would give up to if he was facing a mutant with fire powers. His ocean blue eyes watched them take off in a hurry before looking back at the man.
“You can calm down now. They're gone for now,†said Delano while shaking his head. He had the feeling they would be back if they didn't move on from this spot.

"Mutant creep."
Lance's eyes narrowed as he heard the woman's comment, saw their sneering looks and he could have sworn that he could just feel the animosity that was being sent his way. Obviously these two were anti mutant--if there reactions to his show of fire were anything to go by. Oye--and just his luck to attract people like this---and on a night like tonight too. He was already beyond frustrated by his job hunt failures and now he had to deal with these two--creeps. And trust me when I say that the fact they were anti-mutant protesters were really pissing him off. And even more maddening was that he hadn't done a thing to them. He had been walking down the streets all nice and human looking just minding his own business...and they just had to pester him...just had to piss him off even more....and he could almost count on the fact that a fight was about to break out. Oh this was just fabulous!
Lance's ears pricked as he heard the other male speak out. Can't we all get along? Pbbth! What kind of stupid question was that?! God that sounded just like Xavier. And his we can all get along and live in peace crap. Humans weren't ever going to get along with mutants....and vise versa. It was always going to be a fight among some as to who was the superior species. And it wasn't going to stop. Not with groups like the Brotherhood and the FoH around....no---it was far from over no matter what the pacifists thought! The pyrokinetic glanced over at the other guy (who seemed to be about his age) with eyes sill luminescent from him using his powers.
"Let's get outta here Brianna. Let the mutie lover and his pet be." Lance's muscles tensed back up and he began to slightly shake from the absolute anger coursing through his body. His powers reacting violently as a new wave of smoke began to come off of his body and the fire around his hands flared up a bit. Pet? PET?! ...Lance couldn't believe what he just heard...
"But...but Daniel!" the girl--Brianna--began to protest but stopped when her companion gave her a 'shut up and go' look. She simply sighed in exasperation as she followed her friend and then they both left...
"Yeah y'all better run." Lance growled through gritted teeth at the back of their heads as they left. He felt so downgraded, so angry, frustrated...and a whole host of other emotions that coursed through him--but he had to calm down. And he knew that...he had to calm himself before something (or god forbid someone) caught on fire. Lance closed his eyes as he took in several deep calming breaths...in the nose, out the mouth...and it was several moments before the smoke began to clear and the fire around his hands died out. His eyes going from their luminescent white back to their normal piercing green color...
Phew---now that crisis was over...now onto the next matter at hand...he turned to fully face the other with an eyebrow raised, "And who might you be?" he asked...it was clear from the way he talked and his accent that he wasn't from around here...but that was nothing new..but he sure as hell wasn't going to just go with the stranger without knowing at least his name--there no way....so if the other wanted him to leave, then he had better start answering...

Delano put a palm to his face in shame when Lance yelled at them that they better run. Seriously how much more taunting does one person need for a fight? At least those two didn't seem to be coming back after he said that. Not like there needs to be a fight breaking out on these streets between a mutant and humans. Enough of that happens at random.
He watched as the other man calmed himself down and the fire and white eyes faded. Thankfully he didn't have to do anything drastic to help him calm down. Fire mutants were always dangerous – or from what he has heard. The accent he heard was Southern. “Delano Krueger. Trust me when we need to go now. Who knows if a large group of Friends of Humanity will show up if they tell them about you,†he said.
The feral mutant wasn't even sure if those people knew any FoH members or were members themselves. People he really did not want to mess with right now. His eyes glanced around to see if any stray person was looking over here at the scene. So far it didn't seem like anyone was. “Now do you want to come with me or just stand there like a bump on a log?†asked Delano.

Lance turned back to stare at the place where the two anti mutant creeps had been just before they had ran off. His eyes were still narrowed with disdain. Was it the smartest thing he had ever said? And to anti mutant protesters no less? Of course not! But Lance never did think things through. Never had even as a kid and probably never would. But he was fuming too much to rightly care at the moment. He was more like the fire he controlled--brash, hot headed and temperamental--then he would probably care to admit. But that was who he was...and how he worked. Nothing could change that--no matter how hard some people tried.
Delano. The name struck Lance as a bit different...but that was neither here nor there, "Lance." he said simply in response to the other's introduction. He glanced over at the other as he spoke and the Texan simply shook his head, 'Pacifist.' the pyrokinetic thought to himself with a mental roll of his eyes as he looked at the other. Just what he didn't need--another body trying to tell him humans and mutants would get along. Part of him wanted to go with the other and get the hell out of here...but the other and perhaps more brash part of him wanted to stay. Let them come. Let them attack him. He wasn't scared of them. He wasn't scared of anyone!
But luckily his more logical side won out. And with another shake of his head, he turned away and followed the other, "I'm comin'." he said as he rolled his eyes. Bump on a log? Pet? Erugh how many quips could a guy take directed at him in one night? Ugh...whatever. It didn't matter. All that Lance cared about now was where they were going...and how pissed he would be if this guy was leading him into a trap...

There was no destination in mind on where to go as long as they were far away from here as possible. No way would he go back to the apartment he shares with Tom Hanson. Don't need to give the cop trouble with humans that have a grudge against anything that has powers. Mainly with wrecking the place and probably getting get kicked out. A few turns here and there seemed like the feral mutant didn't know where he was going.
Quite the contrary he was taking a long route towards a small diner. “So, Lance, it seems you have quite the hot head temper going on. Not a good thing to have with those people. I'm not sure if you've ever dealt with the FoH before but they mean business,†said Delano. Having the chance to run into several groups belonging to that organization a few times before. It was hard to tell when they were apart of the Friends of Humanity if they didn't wear the letters.
“Very hard to tell who's apart of it when they don't scream 'mutant hater' off the bat.†He glanced over his shoulder to look at the teen. “You from the south? The accent gives it away.†Trying to make conversation while they had to put up with each other for now.

As terrible as this may have sounded to most people, a small part of Lance was hoping that those two idiots would come back. That they would just try to start something with him. Let them attack him. Let them try. Then he would really show them what he could do with his fire and smoke. Okay so he was still fuming--obviously--and that small part of him was just wanting to take it out on something (or someone)...but he just as quickly reigned those feelings in. Setting someone on fire was definitely not part of his agenda for the night--no matter how much it may have felt good to some part of his brain. It would only make things a thousand times worse for him and he knew it.
And so they walked--and walked some more...and after about the fifth turn and fifteen minutes, Lance was wondering if this guy actually knew where he was going? Or if they were actually going anywhere? Or was this guy just walking him around in circles for the hell of it. None of those which would have made him very happy at the moment. He gave a snort as the other started speaking. Was Lance hot headed? Yes. He wasn't totally oblivious to himself now. Geesh! Give him a little credit here. "Yes...I have dealt with them before." he said a slight twinge of pain in his tone and through a slightly clenched jaw. Okay so it may not have been the exact FoH organization--(though for all he knew his grandparents could have been members)--but he and his sister both knew how far some were willing to go to get rid of mutants. The other just didn't know how close to home they had hit him. No idea whatsoever.
And it would stay that way. He had no intention of telling Delano or anyone else about his past. He had no desire to be pitied...just the idea alone made him cringe. He didn't need to be pitied...he was perfectly fine with it..or anyone else for that matter. He could take care of himself. All Delano got to his inquiry about where he was from was a simple, "Yes." Small talk was obviously not Lance's best suit...and he wasn't keen on holding a conversation with someone he didn't know. But he supposed he should try and be social for a change.
But that was easier said then done...

Sensing his irritation, Delano sighed and knew the diner was coming up around the next turn. Sure it was a long walk but it needed to be like two friends walking along this evening. No other quick way to get where the feral mutant had in mind either. So Lance can just sulk and brood all he wants until they got there. “Well then you know what they are like in massive groups. Not fun at all,†he said.
Luckily no one had stalked them or seemed to be more wary of their actions than normal. From what Delano could tell right now since he kept his ears focused on the surroundings. “Cool. The south is fun to visit. Just not during severe storms.†He shuddered at the thought of being surrounded by tornado producing clouds. He could not remember Arizona having many tornadoes.
Another five minutes later and the diner was in sight. Delano darted across the street towards the small building. “The pie here is delicious! Figured you could be a little hungry,†he suggested as he was a little peckish himself. Pushing the door inward, the feral mutant stepped inside and took a seat at an empty booth near the door. In case they need a quick exit but he figured they were safe.

Sulk and brood. Lance seemed to be good at that. Specially the latter of the two. He wasn't sure why. But it was who he was and how he worked. And he couldn't change it. And so that was that. Though Lance couldn't help the slight smirk that crossed the edges of his face as the other spoke. He thought the South sounded interesting eh? Well--it was in some aspects and in others-- it was terrible. But that was neither here nor there, "Yeah hurricanes and tornadoes aren't any picnics." he said with a soft nod. The area where he lived didn't have much in the way of tornadoes yes, but they had more then their share of hurricanes. The violent and massive storm caused a lot of damage. They even had to rebuild their house one time after a particular nasty hurricane. But they never moved despite the danger from storms. "But the South was okay for what it was." Never mind that he was driven out by a mob who wanted him dead. But the other didn't have to know about all of that mess.
Lance followed him into the diner...and was internally grateful that the other chose a place relatively close to the door. It wasn't like he was claustrophobic or anything, but he wanted to be able to make a quick get away if something went screwy. And knowing his luck and the way things had been going that day. he wouldn't have put it past the universe to screw with him even more.
He went to go protest and say that he wasn't hungry...but a grumble growl from his stomach and the protest died on the tip of his tongue. Okay maybe he was a little hungry here. He hadn't eaten since that afternoon...and he supposed that it was catching up with him. "Suppose I am a bit hungry." he said with a shrug as he tried to figure out what to eat...
Hmmm.....

“Heat waves aren't any fun either,†stated Delano. Although heat waves can happen just about anywhere during the summer. But he didn't forget how he was never apart of hurricanes or tornadoes. Plus fur was never good during a heat wave and that was something he wouldn't bring up since this guy wouldn't understand. Not even if he tried to explain it to him. Wearing a fur coat during a heat wave didn't compare to an animal's fur coat they wear.
As a waitress dropped off a menu in front of him and Lance respectfully. Delano picked it up and glanced through it. Picking out a soup, pie and glass of orange juice for his quick meal. Handing the menu back, he glanced around the diner to note how many people were here. Not many and none seemed to have cared to notice them. “Don't worry if you don't have any money. I'm buying. No need to bother paying me back either,†said Delano to Lance, in case the other didn't have anything on him. So this meant Lance could order anything he wanted.
Plus he meant it on the other not needing to pay him back. After eating they could go their own way, but for now they could find out more about each other while waiting on their food.

Lance fiddled around with the menu a bit as the waitress handed the duo a menu each before walking off to let them look it over before coming back. Lance wasn't sure what to do now. He--hadn't expected this turn of events really. He hadn't expected to get harassed like he had. Or for someone else to show up much less offer him lunch--err dinner...or whatever you wanted to call it. He had pictured himself home in his rinky dink one bedroom apartment at this point in the program. But of course things never went as planned. He should really have been used to that by now....sigh.
He glanced up at the other as he said he'd pay for it and Lance had went to protest. Went to open his mouth to say something along the lines of 'oh no its okay. I got it.' but as soon as he had gone to say something, he shut back up. It wasn't that he didn't have money--which he did--it was just that he didn't feel like getting into a debate with this guy over who was gonna pay for this. The other looked as if he wouldn't have taken no for an answer anyways...and so he wasn't even going to try...
Lance picked a simple sandwich with fries for the night and handed the menu back to the waitress as she had walked back to see if they had been ready to order yet. And then they had to wait--of course. Lance looked around and was glad that there weren't many people here. And that none of them seemed to have notice them walking in. Good--good. The less people that noticed him, the better in his mind.
But of course--the awkward silence thing he could have lived without. But meh whichever...

Sure he would not take no for an answer as he was being generous. Plus he is the one who suggested to go get some food. Mark it off on the good deed list for today. Delano had ordered a classic combo of a cheeseburger with fries and a glass of chocolate milk. Also adding in ranch on his burger just before the waitress had left. Can never go wrong with ranch.
The silence that fell on them as soon as the waitress had left caused the feral mutant to check out the room. A nice diner that seemed to be in need of better cleaning in certain areas. Folks still weren't really paying them much attention. Caught up in their own food or conversation. Bits and pieces he could hear from across the room due to his heightened hearing.
“After we finish eating it should be safe to head out,†he said to Lance. Sure the criminals and thugs would still pose a threat, but at least those FoH members wouldn't know where to look for them. He began to lightly drum his fingertips on the table top out of boredom. It would be a few minutes before his food would arrive.

Lance simply ordered his food as the waitress had come back...and then the silence. Oh the glorious silence. ... Yeah maybe not so much. Lance wasn't he most sociable guy on the planet...and he knew that. He was rather quiet around strangers because he didn't trust them. He didn't trust anyone come to think of it. He didn't want to get used or betrayed like he had been. Never again he had told himself. So yeah this guy was being nice and all...but Lance still kept a mental eye on him. Yeah some might call him over cautious...but he didn't care. He just didn't care.
Lance's ears pricked as he heard the bell jingled letting the diner owners know that someone else had walked in. But he didn't worry about it. People walking in and out...getting food, yada yada...no big deal. That was until--
"Still can't believe those two idiots."
"Leave it be Brianna."
"I just can't--"
"Shh about it already."
Lance's head jerked up as he heard the two familiar voices. He saw the two and his face paled ever so slightly. Crap! It was them. Them again? How?! Oh this was just his luck. Just his luck. Delano spoke and Lance absentmindedly nodded. The pyro mutant was getting a bad, bad feeling about this! "Or maybe we could get to- go boxes?" he said lowly through gritted teeth as he gently jerked his head upwards. It was a low key way of him trying to turn his head to see for himself why they should get out while they could.
Oh this was not going to end well...not well at all....

One. Two. Three. Four.
One. Two. Three. Four.
Delano had began counting as he slowly drummed his fingertips on the table top. Boy was this guy as talkative as a fish. It was always hard to get someone to talk without being annoying. He could scent that their food was about done. Yay! Finally grub to eat but he hated that the hair on the back of his neck rose.
He subtly tried to brush his hair over his forehead to hide his scar. As long as it took them a long time to notice then it won't be a problem. Ocean blue eyes noticed the pair walk in and begin to talk. Lance seemed to have remembered the two from earlier. “Just keep calm,†he said, lowly to Lance. Maybe they won't be stupid to attack in a neutral zone.
Eating on the run is something he hated to do. “Don't even keep looking in their direction,†he added. What he wouldn't give to have the menus back to hide in. The scene from the Emperor's New Groove played through his head with it but unfortunately wouldn't end up the same. Why can't cartoon gags work in real life like that?

Keep calm.
Don't look in their direction.
Riiight. That was so much more easier for him to say and do. He wasn't the one who got harassed and pushed around. He wasn't the one who got called....a pet. ... Ohh how that still made him fume something fierce. And now they were still trailing him. He was sure that if they noticed them--then all bets were off. They'd go back to harassing him and probably the other too. And if that happened--well Lance couldn't promise that he wouldn't keep himself or his powers in check this time. Those two got lucky the first time--they may not get so lucky this time...if they didn't leave him alone. That was all he wanted. That wasn't too much to ask right?
"Easy for you..." the Texan native muttered under his breath as he looked away and towards the walls. He wanted out...to get out of here. Before they saw them. Before they got all over his back again. And especially before something bad happened. He wasn't getting a good feeling about this. That uneasy feeling was radiating in his gut and he just wanted to get away from this. But he couldn't just leave...the other was being nice here and buying him food. Just leaving didn't seem right....
oh brother....why did this always happen to him?
((OOC: You can control the two FOH people if you wanna...they're just arrogant mutant hating people...take that as you will LOL))
