Characters Appearing: Gwen Tennyson and Lance Time of Day: Late afternoon Location(s): New York Previous Thread Name/Info: N/A NPCs Used: Probably a few random citizens and maybe an alien or two Plot Summary: Gwen visits New York for a possible alien threat but finds something else.
New York was a busy place and Gwen has not been here a lot. Only when there was need to go outside of Bellwood for Plumber duty is when she went all over the world. There had been a few sightings on a report she read on the Plumber website and she felt the need to check things out. With only vague information meant that something had to be going on that no one was saying the full story.
Stifling a small yawn, she walked into a park and began to look around. Not too many people were out and about. Something she felt was odd but maybe it was due to the chilly weather. Who knows really? But so far her badge wasn't flashing to signal her that an alien was nearby or causing trouble. She would just need to keep a look out for anything strange. Stranger than usual.
Right now she felt worn out by the travel here and she sat down on a nearby bench. It's been way too long since she had a rest as she keeps herself very busy. Getting a date with Kevin was rare and he seemed to be off doing something since he wasn't answering her calls. With him she knew he would be loyal, so there was hardly any fretting with what he was doing.
“I really hope I'm here for only a few days,†she said to herself. Finals were coming up at her school and she needed to study.

Lance yawned softly as he wandered around the streets. He felt...terrible to be frank. A power mishap the other day not only burnt the crap out of his arms but left him feeling drained both physically and mentally. He wasn't too worried about it though. He'd be rid of the draining feeling of exhaustion soon enough... and well, he had burned himself enough times to know what to do. And so he had treated the wounds with medicine and then wrapped them up with bandages. And then went about his day like nothing was wrong. And if anyone asked...he had burnt his arms on the oven door in a failed attempt to cook... something he sucked at anyways. Can we say microwaveable meal person much?
He was just walking around to walk around really. He was wearing a typical pair of blue jeans with a dark red T-shirt. He normally wore a jean jacket but the cloth rubbing against the burns even though they were covered in bandages--still hurt like crazy. And so the jacket had to stay home this time. Meh whichever...
It had been a couple weeks since his surprise encounter with his sister and he was still fuming over it. She didn't know man. She didn't know what he was feeling and what he was thinking. He had left for a reason. And yeah he should have left a note, but he didn't. And who was she to try and force him to come back to the mansion? Bah! She wasn't his mother...she was his sister. And he was not a little kid anymore! He was a grown man and he could make his choices. And without having to consult with her like he would have their mom. He made his choices as did she and they both had to deal with it. He had...now why couldn't she?
Lance sighed as he flopped down onto a bench...not yet noticing that there was someone else there yet. He was too busy with his thoughts and simply shaking his head (mentally that was) at his sister's stubbornness. Oh why did this have to be so complicated? It didn't really have to be that way--did it?

It didn't take much to notice that the young man that sat down next to her was very lost in thought. Her eyebrows pinched in concern when her eyes fell upon the bandages. Just what had happened to him? They weren't a fashion statement or else they wouldn't have been done this well. Too precise and too careful. “Excuse me,†spoke Gwen. Her voice even and full of concern. “What happened to your arms?â€
A simple enough gesture to talk to a complete stranger. Probably a few other people have noticed and maybe asked what had happened. Tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, she waited for a response. Hoping that he wouldn't blow her off for being nosy. Her eyes glance around the park to see who else was around.
Nothing out of the ordinary still. Since the other person sharing the bench appeared to not notice her still or the fact her questioned hadn't registered yet. Gwen decided to use her powers to scan the vast area for any unknown signatures that were alien-related. Her eyes went a magenta color for a few seconds. Her powers reaching out across to the people she could see.
Not a one could tell they were being scanned. Once Gwen stopped her eyes returned to their normal color. Everyone appeared normal but the guy she was siting next to. He was not an alien but she picked up something other than human within in him. So just what exactly did she pick up from him?

Lance was broken out of his mindless thinking about his sister and their circumstances by a voice. A simple female voice that was obviously speaking to him (of course). He glanced over at the other as she spoke--bright green eyes taking in the other's form. Of course he would have to sit next to someone when he didn't really want to be messed with. And of course she had to ask questions about what had happened to his arms. Though really he wasn't too surprised by that. Anyone with a right sense would have been asking him questions about his bandaged up arms. That was..if he had stuck around long enough to try and hold a conversation with them. But he had managed to briskly walk away from anyone before they even had to change to gasp. But he couldn't escape everyone he gathered. He supposed anyone walking around looking like he looked was liable to being asked a half a million questions. Not that he had to like it....but whatever....
It wasn't like he was going to be rude and brush her off. Although it was mighty tempting and he could have done it and had been doing it to the other people he had bumped into, or they bumped into his arms by accident causing him to hiss in pain thus the inevitable 'what happened to you?'...but eh, he just didn't have much energy to be all sarcastic at the moment if he wanted to be honest. He still felt drained and tired beyond belief (and he was sure it showed too). Not to mention that would mean getting up, and he was pretty content to just sit here thank you very much. But he would have to answer her now. And somehow he didn't think she would buy his made up story, but what the heck? All he could do was try, "Burnt my arms trying to cook. Not my specialty." he said with a nonchalant shrug.
He glanced over at her for a split second and saw the magenta glow of her eyes...his own eyebrow raising for a moment before he turned his eye away so that she didn't suspect anything. Now there was something you don't see everyday. Maybe she was a mutant like him? Or maybe he was just seeing things? With this town--you never knew...

Burnt his arms cooking? That seemed to be a rather lame excuse. And she's heard plenty of lame excuses over the years from her cousin. If he had noticed her eyes glow then he wasn't saying anything. At least everyone wouldn't be drawn to her like a freak that needed to be bullied for being different. Oh hell, like she would ever let that happen to her.
“So what really happened? There's only a few things that are cooking related that could do that much injury,†she proclaimed. She couldn't help but show off how smart she is and there were very few scenarios that she ran through her head that could make this possible. “I should tell you now that my cousin, Ben, could probably come up with something better yet I would still refuse to believe him. Since he can be a bad cook at times himself.â€
Gwen turned to the side to face him on the bench. Hopefully he wouldn't run away before she found out what she sensed from him. Not like she would go running around and shouting at the top of her lungs about him being different. Those types of people irked her when they hated different people for poor reasons.

It took a great deal of self control not to sigh, groan or otherwise make any noise of discontent that would have let the other know that he knew that he was out and out lying to her. She didn't believe him. Of course she didn't. Why should she of? He didn't even believe himself there for a moment. Burnt his arms cooking? Was that really the best excuse he could come up with? Really? Not the best excuse out there...and apparently the other knew that too...
Of course she had a family member who pulled stuff like that a lot. A cousin eh? Hmm.... He couldn't help but snort at she spoke. Of all the people he had to run into by accident, he would have to run into a know it all. He mentally groaned. Now there wasn't anything wrong with being smart. He wasn't saying that. The problem was when they had to show it off and let everyone know about it. That was what irked the Texan native to no end.
Lance simply shook his head, "Ya wouldn't believe me if I told ya." he said his accent thick. He wasn't planning on telling her the truth. Or of his mutation. And he wasn't changing that plan either. Though he was still curious about that eye glow thing...but he wasn't going to ask. Knowing his luck, it was probably just his imagination and she would have though that he was even more crazy.
That was just what he didn't need thank you very much.

It wasn't like Gwen was meaning to show off her brains all the time. It just happened and usually Ben or Kevin either ignored her or made a call on it. That snort he did caused her to feel disrespected and glare a little at him. “What was that for?†she asked, curiosity getting the best of her. Why couldn't people just come out and say what they were mad about? Of course she did it at times, too. But normally to try and let Kevin think about what he has done.
Ben usually got it right away with the silent treatment. His thick accent was something she had heard before and tried to place it. Her eyebrows knitted together in concern on why he would say she wouldn't believe him. Now it was time to throw any petty anger away and find out what is going on for sure. Maybe even end up telling him about her powers.
“I think you wouldn't believe in a lot of things I've seen for myself. So why are you saying I wouldn't believe you? Even though you really haven't said anything yet,†said Gwen while leaving out the lame excuse part. Both seemed to know that no one would really believe that if they were smart enough.

Lance's eyebrow rose as the girl spoke. She was glaring at him too. What was that for? What was that for?! He was tempted to snort again--but he didn't. And it took a lot of self control not to. Oh this chick was already on his last nerves. And they hadn't even been together for more then ten minutes! (That wasn't bad was it? Yeah probably was. But he didn't care much right now). She seemed like the know-it-all...must know-it-all type. Or at least she wasn't going to let him leave anyways. Not without telling her something.
But if she thought that he was going to just spill the beans...just because she was getting all uppity about it...then she had another thing coming. Another thing entirely. He wasn't that easy to crack.
He shrugged in response to her 'what was that for' and let it go. He wasn't going to say anything. Why? Cause then she would say something. And then he would never be able to leave this park bench! Why was he getting the feeling that he should have just sat somewhere else.
She spoke again and Lance's teeth clenched together. Who the heck did this girl think she was?! She knew nothing about him. Nothing. And who did she think she was--talking to him like that? Like he was some child?! Humph--like that was really going to make him want to tell her anything. He turned towards her with a glare of his own across his dark green eyes, "Cause maybe...just maybe I dun feel like tellin' anythin' to someone who I dun even know their name." he said. She was a stranger. A stranger whom he was growing a dislike for.
His lips were staying zipped!
