Play By: John Simm Height: 5’9” Weight: 145 Eye color: Hazel Hair color: Dirty Blonde Body type: Thin
Likes: Causing pain and suffering in others, causing pain and suffering in the Doctor, ruling the universe, immortality, dancing, Teletubbies Dislikes: The Doctor, losing, being bored, not being able to show up the Doctor, the sound of the drums Habits: Abusing others for his own amusement Fears: Death, hearing the drums again Strengths: Intelligence, determination Weaknesses: Insanity, cruelty Powers: Hypnotism, telepathy, resistance to temporal effects, perception of the fabric of time, shooting lightning from his hands . Personality: The Master is pretty much the opposite of the Doctor in just about every respect, save his brilliance, wit and insanity. Where the Doctor is good, the Master is what some could call evil, but he doesn't see it that way. He has delusions of godhood and believes the Time Lords are absolutely superior to every other race. He automatically assumes the privilege of altering the course of history, believing that, as a Time Lord, he has that right. He is exceptionally vain and arrogant, and these two character flaws lead to his downfall on many occasions. After his revival at the hands of the Disciples of Saxon -- and Lucy's screwing up the ritual -- the Master was more insane than ever. He acted like an animal, being impulsive and giving the impression that he wasn't giving much thought into what he was doing, yet everything adding up to a major scheme. Now, however, he has gained more control over himself, and is rather cool, collected and confident. He tends to have outbursts of childlike glee, spitefulness and obliviousness, and a determination to see that his revenge finally gets served.
Mother: Unknown Father: Unknown Siblings: Unknown Other Family: Unknown Friends: The Doctor, kind of Enemies: The Doctor (it’s complicated), pretty much everyone else Home town: Gallifrey Current residence: His TARDIS, currently landed on Earth History: The Master was a contemporary of the Doctor; they grew up on Gallifrey together and were even friends. At his initiation ritual, which included staring into the Untempered Schism, his mind became unhinged as a result. Turns out that a drumming sound -- a beat of four; the heartbeat of a Time Lord -- was implanted into his brain around this time by the Time Lord President Rassilon near the end of the Last Great Time War, contributing to his insanity. When the Doctor left Gallifrey, the Master followed him into the vastness of space and started a personal vendetta against his former friend. He spent most of his natural lives attempting to find the secret to immortality, as well as cause trouble throughout the universe in an attempt to finally get his revenge on the Doctor for reasons unknown. This vendetta continued on through many lifetimes. His current incarnation has had a ball with the human race as well as the Doctor. He created an "alien" race called the Toclafane out of the survivors at the end of the universe, cannibalized the TARDIS and turned it into a Paradox Machine so that he could use his Toclafane to rule the Earth. He became the British Prime Minister and practically hypnotized the entirety of the world using the Archangel Network. He aged the Doctor into a little house elf like creature and kept him in a birdcage, tortured Jack Harkness and Martha Jones' family for that same year, then refused to regenerate and died to spite the Doctor. He later was revived by the Disciples of Saxon, gained the ability to shoot lightning out of his hands, turned the entirety of Earth's population -- save Wilf and Donna -- into clones of himself, brought the Time Lords and the whole Time War out of the Time Lock and into Earth's airspace, and killed Rassilon to save the Doctor, sacrificing himself and sending the Time Lords back into the Time Lock with Gallifrey.
His plan backfired, though, and he ended up sucked back into the Time Lock with Rassilon. But instead of getting stuck in there, he passed right through it and was sort of teleported to some other planet. He stayed there for a while, using the local technology and his own knowledge to grow a functioning TARDIS, and is currently out and about in the universe again, causing havoc wherever he goes.
Name: Maggie Age: 37 Contact: PM Other characters: No Role play sample: The woman had had some training. This was the first thing that The Master noticed as he invaded her mind. The walls were well-constructed, but even with her bit of Time Lord DNA they were not enough to stop him. He’d had too much practice at this; he enjoyed breaking into the minds of others, finding their secrets, everything that made them what they were and destroying it, or turning it to his benefit. Her walls fell away easily and he felt her pain as they crumbled and he delved deeper.
You really should have just let me in to begin with… Koschei whispered into her mind. It would have gone a lot easier for you if had
Everything was so out of order. Her life was scattered across so many different time periods. With the Time Lord DNA he wasn’t surprised to find that she was a time traveler; she would have been drawn to it, but this was a lot even for the average traveler.
She was screaming. Whether it was the physical damage he was causing her, or the mental damage or both, he didn’t care. The sound was music to his ears; the proof that right now he was in control, she had tried to defy and threaten him and now she was in his power. She thought she was strong and defiant but she was wrong. So wrong.
River… he whispered, finding her name on the surface of her mind. River Song…didn’t anyone ever warn you not to talk to strangers? It didn’t take long before he found it. The accident of her birth, what she was, how she was, and the reason why she was what she was, the name that was scrawled in large clear letters all over the pages of her life.
The Doctor.
The offspring of two of his companions, separated from her parents and wandering alone all these years, The Master marveled at her very existence. You impossible thing… he whispered to her in wonder. Like the Doctor, after all these centuries the universe never failed to surprise him sometimes. And here was a creature that shouldn’t really exist. There never should have been a human/Time Lord cross; the Time Lords were infertile after all. But a little bit of them existed in her.
Not that that would save her, of course. The Time Lords were pretty much a dead race, apart from him and the Doctor, who apparently was still alive, and regenerated yet again, according to what he saw in River’s memories. Koschei had no love for the Time Lords anyway. They had tormented his mind by exposing him to the Time Vortex, defied him time and again, tried to use him to fight their Time War with the Daleks, then did use him to save themselves after the Time War ended in disaster. No, that little bit of DNA would definitely not save River Song.
But back to the Doctor….he sifted through her mind, running her thoughts, feelings and memories through his mental fingers like sand, poring over everything he found. He saw it all. The Doctor was so important to her, she saw herself even now as saving him. Little did she know, of how little the Doctor had actually told her.
He’s not always right, you know. The Master whispered to her. Your friend. He already knows me. We go back a very long way. He was my friend before he was ever yours he said, whispering the Doctor’s real name to her, getting the accent more correctly than she had. And as you can see, he’s definitely not the last
This woman was the key. The key to finding his old adversary and ending things once and for all. Yes, he had an election going on, but this was so much more important and what was time travel for anyway if not to multitask? He could destroy the Doctor and be back in time for his next interview. He’d even still have time for lunch.
The Master withdrew himself from River’s mind, slowly and painfully, at least on her end, and looked down at her with a sweet, malicious smile. He let go of one wrist and traced a finger gently down her cheek. She looked in such pain, such distress. It was positively adorable.
“River…” he practically cooed, tapping the end of her nose. “You’re going to help me find him. The Doctor and I have unfinished business, and you’re going to help me. But since you’ve introduced yourself, in a way, it’s only fair that I do the same. You may call me Master.”
